| I'm my cat's mom. His name is Guido, and he is a male domestic shorthair. At 2 years old, he suffered from an indolent ulcer on his lip. He had a huge, deep ulcer on his entire upper lip. It looked like a crater. It would bleed and was so large his face looked deformed at times from the swelling. I took Guido to my neighborhood vet for treatment. Guido received steroid shots plus Clavamox drops for five months. The injections and drops helped a little, but the vet said long-term steroid use was very harmful. The veterinarian then suggested I try acupuncture. Enter Dr. Beebe and staff at the Integrative Veterinary Center. We changed Guido's diet from dry cat food to canned food and some raw foods. Guido had weekly acupuncture treatments for three months. We then started adding Chinese herbs to his food. Guido first saw Dr. Beebe in March of 2002 and she warned me that this regimen wouldn't cure Guido overnight, that it would take a long time to treat and heal this type of condition. She couldn't promise anything, but she would try. Guido was on different Chinese herb mixtures for 18 months. His lip healed slowly over many months. Finally the ulcer was gone and now his lip is purrfect! The staff didn't give up on Guido and neither did I. Guido is a happy camper now! I recommend the Integrative Veterinary Center to any pet owner who has exhausted all western medical possibilities for treatment. ~ Jan Drakulich and Guido the cat |
